DAL YAH

Queen Bitch

About

DAL YAH with her looper plays, vintage hip-hop, and dark beats, with vocals that are layered over with smooth harmonies and fiddled with live. She is a rhythm and blues baby that mixes trip-hop, psychedelic melodies, and arabic rifs.DAL YAH the vocalist is of Palestinian origin, but has never had the privilege of living in her country. Born in transit to a country she has no affiliation, then to the UK, where her family moved every year for 10 years. Finally Dalia and her family settled in Canada, where she lived her adolescence. She then started a career in social work, where she worked in the field of migration and refugees. This brought her to Laos, Bangladesh, Lebanon and South Sudan, until finally settling in Barcelona.

The only constant in all of this change was music. Her influences are other, ‘othered’ outsiders. Growing up in North America DAL YAH was mainly influenced by Black Music. High-school playlists were pure hip-hop with a preference for conscious MCs, like Mos Def, and vocally educated by the Eryka Badu, Sade, and Jill Scott era. Her Arabic influences where the poets like Fairouz, and um Kulthoum.

Her music is true to her hybrid identity, Arabic and English (spoken from the mouths of the oppressed). DAL YAH’s message is informed by migration, social justice, and a rage from witnessing the Palestinian reality, the migrant reality, and the refugee reality first hand. Your art is tired. Music is supposed to inspire
